When you install a Photoshop plug-in in Fireworks, it is added to the Xtras menu and to the Effect panel. Use the Xtras menu to apply Photoshop plug-ins only when you are certain that you will not want to edit or remove the effect from an object.
Use the Effect panel to apply Photoshop plug-ins as Live Effects. (Some Photoshop plug-ins cannot be used as Live Effects.)
Note: When sharing a Fireworks file in which a Photoshop plug-in is applied as a Live Effect, the recipient must have the plug-in installed to view the effect. Fireworks built-in effects, however, are saved with the Fireworks file and the recipient does not need to install an additional file to view the effect.
To install Photoshop plug-ins:
1 | In the Effect panel Options pop-up menu, choose Locate Plug-ins. The Select the Photoshop Plugins folder dialog box opens. |
2 | Navigate to the folder where the Photoshop plug-ins are installed, and click OK. |
3 | Restart Fireworks to load the plug-ins. |

Note: If you move the plug-ins to a different folder, repeat the above steps, or choose File > Preferences, and click the Folders tab to change the path to the plug-ins. Then restart Fireworks.
To apply a Photoshop plug-in to a selected object as a Live Effect:
Choose the plug-in from the Effect pop-up menu in the Effect panel.
